MINES AND MINERAL RESOURCES:

          Before 1971, there was a Directorate of Industrial and Mineral Development Punjab which was looking after the work of mineral development in Punjab. For rapid development of mineral resources of backward and neglected areas of Punjab, the office of the Assistant Director, Mineral Development was established at Dera Ghazi Khan in 1971. Before 1979, the Assistant Director used to deal with issuance of work order, renewal of leases, demarcation of dispute areas and routine inspection. In 1979 a District Auction Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner was formed for common minerals like sand, stone, gravel and concrete. Later on, Chairman, Zila Council and Assistant Director Mineral Development were made president and Secretary of the District Auction Committee, respectively.

The following duties are performed by the Assistant Director Mineral Development;

  1. Making of blocks of common mineral according to the sheets of survey of Pakistan.
  2. Publishing and advertising auctions and holding of auction meetings under the President-ship of Chairman Zila Council.
  3. Intimation to Concerned parties regarding approval or disapproval of their bids.
  4. Preparation of accounts of common minerals and issuance of notices to the lease holders.
  5. Checking of illegal lifting and proceeding against them.
  6. Demarcation of disputed boundaries of lease holders.
  7. Follow-up of cases in the courts on behalf of the Department.
